It is estimated, there are about 20 Lac people with kidney failure in our country and around 2 Lac more are added to these figures every year. It is a similar situation in cases of those suffering from failure of heart, liver, pancreas, eyes etc.
To provide hope and help to these ‘Organ Failure Patients’ and bring new lease of life to them, Mr. Nilesh Mandlewala has dedicated his life for this noble cause since 2005.
In January 2006, he got first cadaver donor from Ashaktashram Hospital, Surat and his organs were transplanted to the patient at Institute of Kidney Disease and Research Center (IKDRC) Ahmedabad, thus he become instrumental for the first ever INTERCITY cadaver transplantation in Gujarat.
With his vision, passion, convincing power, commitment and dedication to organ donation activities, he achieved several milestones in this field, through his persuasion he has been able to procure 554 Kidneys, 242 Livers, 9 Pancreas, 58 Hearts, 56 Lungs, 11 Hands & 452 Cornea and a total of 1383 Organs and Tissue donations which gave new lease of life and vision to 1275 organ failure patients in our country and globe.
His dedication towards mankind is such that he even sacrifices the celebrations and occasions of joy of his own family and himself as he would go without any second thought of the weather or time, just to convince the relatives of the brain dead patients at any location. He makes sure that organs of the cadaver donors reach on time, in good condition and definitely at the right place.
His service is so selfless that in spite his father being kidney failure patient, he never attempted to obtain kidney for him. He is a one man force relentlessly working for others only.
Coming from a non-medical background his relentless work and commitment in the area of Cadaver Organ Donation is of National Significance and unparallel in the history of India.
Also taking it upon himself to educate and spread awareness to more than 10 lac people on Cadaver organ donation.
