Details of the incident:

On Thursday 31st May 2018, Sureshbhai complained about a headache at around 9:30 PM and suddenly he got unconscious and fell down after vomiting. The family members called 108 ambulance and shifted him in Ayush I.C.U & Multispecialty Hospital under the supervision of Dr Parthiv Patel. After CT scan, doctors found a brain hemorrhage because of the blood clot and swelling in the brain.

On 1st June, Friday, Sureshbhai was shifted to INS Hospital at 1:30 AM for further treatment under Neurosurgeon Dr. Ashok Patel. The next day, he was declared brain dead by Neurosurgeon Dr. Ashok Patel, Dr. Dhaval Patel, Neurophycian Dr. Anirudh Apte and Intensivist Dr. Ankit Gajjar.

Intensivist Dr. Ankit Gajjar informed Donate Life President Nilesh Mandlewala and informed about his brain dead. The team of Donate Life reached the hospital and explained the importance and procedure of Organ Donation to his wife Minakshiben, Father Bhikhabhai, Brothers Rameshbhai, Jitendrabhai and other family members.

Family members of Sureshbhai said, “If our loved one is brain dead and going to die soon, it is better to donate his precious organs and save the lives of needy people rather than burning his organ to ashes.”

On getting the consent from Sureshbhai’s family members, Donate Life Founder President Nilesh Mandlewala contacted Dr. Pranjal Modi at Institute of Kidney Diseases and Research Centre (IKDRC), Ahmedabad and informed him to accept the donation of the organs. The donation of the kidney was accepted by Dr. Suchet and his team from Institute of Kidney Diseases and Research Centre (IKDRC), Ahmedabad whereas, the donation of eyes was accepted by Lokdrashti Chakshu Bank’s Dr. Praful Shiroya.

Out of two donated kidneys, one was transplanted into Shashi Rajendrasingh Parihar (Age 63) living in Ahmedabad and another was transplanted into Piyush Dineshbhai Patel (Age 41) living in Vadodara. The process of organ transplantation was done by Dr. Pranjal Modi, Dr. Jamal Rizvi and their team from Institute of Kidney Diseases and Research Centre (IKDRC).

This whole process of organ donation witnessed an invaluable co-operation of Sureshbhai’s wife Minakshiben, Father Bhikhabhai, Brothers Rameshbhai and Jitendrabhai and other family members, Neurosurgeon Dr. Ashok Patel, Dr. Dhaval Patel, Neurophysician Dr. Anirudh Apte, Intensivist Dr. Ankit Gajjar, Administrators & Staff members of INS Hospital, Founder President of Donate Life Nilesh Mandlewala, Secretary Rakesh Jain, and Trustee Hemant Desai.

So far, the team of Donate Life has given new life to 586 people by playing an instrumental role in donating 251 kidneys, 101 livers, 6 pancreas, 17 hearts and 214 eyes by providing counseling to the family members of brain dead persons.
