Family members of Rekhaben said, “We were often reading the news of the Organ Donation in newspapers. As well as, we also learn the importance of Organ Donation through the poster of Donate Life-giving information about Organ Donation at the hospital’s ICU. We have lost our family member due to organ failure hence we understand how important it is to donate the organs. They added that organ donation is a good deed. Today when our elder has got brain dead and is going to die soon, it is better to donate her precious organs and save the lives of needy people rather than burning her organ to ashes.”

On getting the consent from Rekhaben’s family members, Donate Life Founder President Nilesh Mandlewala contacted Dr. Pranjal Modi at Institute of Kidney Diseases and Research Centre (IKDRC), Ahmedabad and informed him to accept the donation of kidney and liver. The donation of kidney and liver were accepted by the Dr. Suchet Chaudhary and his team from Institute of Kidney Diseases and Research Centre (IKDRC), Ahmedabad, whereas donation of eyes was accepted by Lokdrashti Chakshu Bank’s Dr. Praful Shiroya.

Out of two donated kidneys, one was transplanted into Madangopal Jagannath Garg (Age 64) living in Patilaya, Punjab and another was transplanted into Ghulam Bashir Mohammed Sheikh (Age 63) living in Valsad. Whereas, the liver was transplanted into Jignesh Dilipbhai Shah (Age 42) living in Baroda. The process of organ transplantation was done by Dr. Pranjal Modi, Dr. Jamal Rizvi and their team from Institute of Kidney Diseases and Research Centre (IKDRC).

This whole process of organ donation witnessed an invaluable co-operation of Rekhaben’s son Kandarp, Dr. Bankim Desai, Dr. Anita Desai, Dr. Rachna Desai, CA Nirav Desai and other family members, Physician Dr. Rajesh Bakriwala, Neurophysician Dr. Parthiv Desai, Neurosurgeon Dr. Parag Pandya, Intensivist Dr. Alok Shah, Administrators & Staff members of Mahavir Trauma Hospital, President of Donate Life Nilesh Mandlewala and Subhash Jodhani.
