Incident:
On 5th June 2018, Tuesday, Premilaben suddenly fell down in her home at 5.30 AM and due to head injury, she got unconscious. She was immediately admitted to Ayush ICU hospital. After CT scan, doctors found brain hemorrhage. Later she was shifted to INS Hospital for the further treatment under Neurosurgeon Dr. Ashok Patel. On 6th June, Dr. Ashok Patel, Dr.Dhaval Patel and Neurophysician Dr. Manoj Satyawani have declared brain dead. Intensivist Dr. Ankit Gajjar then called Donate Life President Founder Shri Nilesh Mandlewala and informed him about Premilaben.
After getting the phone call from the hospital, Team Donate Life reached the hospital to counsel the family members of Premilaben’s sons Bhikhabhai, Atulbhai, Sanjaybhai and other family members.
Family members of Premilaben said, “2 days ago only we have read the news about Labhuben’s organ donation in newspapers. Today, when the doctors declared our loved one brain dead, it is better to donate her precious organs and save the lives of needy people rather than burning his organ to ashes.”
On getting the consent from Premilaben’s family members, Donate Life Founder President Nilesh Mandlewala contacted Dr. Pranjal Modi at Institute of Kidney Diseases and Research Centre (IKDRC), Ahmedabad and informed to accept the donation of the organs. The donation of the kidney and liver was accepted by Dr.Sureshkumar and his team from Institute of Kidney Diseases and Research Centre (IKDRC), Ahmedabad whereas, the donation of eyes was accepted by Dr.Praful Shiroya from Lokdrashti Chakshu Bank.
Out of two donated kidneys, one Kidney was transplanted into Yogeshsinh Lalchandbhai Bhati (Age 55) living in Gandhinagar whereas another was transplanted into Kamlesh Jayantibhai Pandit (Age 53) living in Ahmedabad. The liver was transplanted into Hemaben Devanand Kanjani (Age 54) living in Ahmedabad. The process of organ transplantation was done by Dr.Pranjal Modi and his team at Institute of Kidney Diseases and Research Centre (IKDRC).
In the process of procuring organs, we have got the support of Premilaben’s sons Bhikhabhai, Atulbhai, Sanjaybhai and their family members, Neurosurgeon Dr. Ashok Patel, Dr.Dhaval Patel, Neurophysician Dr.Manoj Satyavani, Intensivist Dr.Ankit Gajjar, Management and staff members of INS Hospital, Donate Life Founder President Nilesh Mandlewala and Yogesh Prajapati.
So far, the team of Donate Life has given new life to 605 people by playing an instrumental role in donating 258 kidneys, 105 livers, 6 pancreas, 17 hearts and 222 eyes by providing counseling to the family members of brain dead persons. We salute the Family of Premilaben. They are the real Hero of our society.
