Details of the incident:

Labhuben complained about a headache since last ten to twelve days. On 28 May, Labhuben was admitted to Shri Gopal Hospital due to a headache and chest pain. After M.R.I engio and CT scan, doctors found blood clot and swelling in the brain due to break out of brain veins. On 2nd June, she was shifted to Mahavir Trauma Hospital for the further treatment under the supervision of Neurosurgeon Dr. Hasmukh Sojitra. On 5th June, Tuesday, she was declared brain dead by Neurosurgeon Dr. Hasmukh Sojitra and Neurophysician Dr. Parthiv Desai.

Chairman of Ramkrishna Export, Shri Govindbhai Dhalakiya and Dr. Hasmukh Sojitra informed Donate Life President Nilesh Mandlewala and informed about her brain dead. The team Donate Life reached the hospital and explained the importance and procedure of Organ Donation to her husband Meghjibhai, Sons Bipinbhai, Mukeshbhai, Shaileshbhai and other family members.

Family members of Labhuben said, “We have read the news about organ donation in newspapers. Today, when the doctors declared our loved one brain dead, it is better to donate her precious organs and save the lives of needy people rather than burning his organ to ashes.”

On getting the consent from Labhuben’s family members, Donate Life Founder President Nilesh Mandlewala contacted Dr. Pranjal Modi at Institute of Kidney Diseases and Research Centre (IKDRC), Ahmedabad and informed him to accept the donation of the organs. The donation of the kidney and liver was accepted by Dr. Pranjal Modi and his team from Institute of Kidney Diseases and Research Centre (IKDRC), Ahmedabad. Whereas, the donation of eyes was accepted by Lokdrashti Chakshu Bank’s Dr. Praful Shiroya. The kidney was transplanted into Jaykrushna Phulabhai Patel (Age 41) living in Borsad, Anand. Whereas, the liver was transplanted into Rajesh Dave (Age 55) living in Anjar. The process of organ transplantation was done by Dr. Pranjal Modi and his team from Institute of Kidney Diseases and Research Centre (IKDRC).

This whole process of organ donation witnessed an invaluable co-operation of Labhuben’s husband Meghjibhai, Sons Bipinbhai, Mukeshbhai, Shaileshbhai and other family members, Neurosurgeon Dr. Hasmukh Sojitra, Neurophysician Dr. Parthiv Desai, Intensivist Dr. Hardik Patel, Shri Govindbhai Dholakiya (Chairman of Shri Ramkrishan Export), Administrators & Staff members of Mahavir Hospital, Founder President of Donate Life Nilesh Mandlewala, Trustee Hemant Desai, Subhash Jodhani and Yogesh Prajapati.

So far, the team of Donate Life has given new life to 595 people by playing an instrumental role in donating 254 kidneys, 103 livers, 6 pancreas, 17 hearts and 218 eyes by providing counseling to the family members of brain dead persons.
