Details of the incident:

From last 10 to 12 days, Keshubhai was suffering from severe chest pain. For that reason, on 25th April he was admitted to Mahavir Cardiac Hospital under cardiologist Dr Dhaval Shah. He was further proceded with Angioplasty. On that day, Keshubhai was suffered from paralysis attack in the right side of the body. After CT scan doctors found a brain hemorrhage because of a blood clot and swelling in the brain. On 26th April for the further treatment, he was shifted to Kokilaben Dhirubhai Ambani Hospital in Mumbai. Doctors proceeded with further treatment and did angiography with CT scan. He was diagnosed with brain hemorrhage. On 27th april at 4:00AM he was again shifted to Surat’s Mahavir Cardiac hospital from Mumbai.

On 27th April, Keshubhai was declared brain dead by Neurophysician Dr Paresh Zanzmera and Dr Haresh Parekh. Manharbhai Saspara (Chairman and Managing Director of Euro Foods) informed Donate Life president Nilesh Mandlewala about the situation through telephonic conversation and informed about the situation of Keshubhai condition of brain dead. Along with Manharbhai Saspara and the team of Donate Life reached the hospital and explained the importance and procedure of Organ Donation to his wife Shardaben, son Vijay and daughter Varsha and brothers namely Chaganbhai and Dhanjibhai, nephew Ashokbhai.

Family members informed that Keshubhai was very closely related to the activity of water campaign in his native Bhavnagar district. He was kind heart person and always helpful to others. They also added that it is a matter of destiny, death is a matter of time but living in someone’s heart after death is a matter of good deeds in life. On getting the consent from Keshubhai’s family members, The president of Donate Life contacted Dr Jamal Rizvi of Institute of Kidney Diseases and Research Centre (IKDRC), Ahmedabad to accept the donation of liver and kidney.

Dr Suresh Kumar accepted the donation of kidneys and liver whereas, the donation of eyes was accepted by Lokdrashti Chakshu Bank’s Dr Praful Shiroya. Out of two donated kidneys, one was transplanted into Keshavkumar Hareshkumar Chandani (Age 43) living in Ahmedabad and another was transplanted into Jayantilal Kababhai Rana (Age 64) living in Baroda. Whereas, the liver was transplanted into Pareshbhai Hasmukhbhai Trivedi (Age 45) living in Baroda. The process of organ transplantation was done by Dr Vaibhav Suteria, Dr Jamal Rizvi and their team from Institute of Kidney Diseases and Research Centre (IKDRC).

This whole process of organ donation witnessed an invaluable co-operation of Keshubhai’s wife Shardaben, Son Vijay, Daughter Varshaben, Brothers Chaganbhai and Dhanjibhai, nephew Ashokbhai, and the whole Mangukiya family members. A special thanks to Manharbhai Saspara (Chairman and Managing Director of Euro Foods), Neuro Surgeon Dr Jigar Shah, Neuro Physician Dr Pareshbhai Zanzmera and Dr Haresh Parekh.  Administrators & Staff members of Mahavir Cardiac Hospital, President of Donate Life Nilesh Mandlewala, Secretary Rakesh Jain, trustee Hemant Desai Subhash Jodhani and other team members.

So far the team of Donate Life has given new life to 582 persons by playing an instrumental role in donating 249 kidneys, 101 livers, 6 pancreases, 17 hearts and 212 eyes by providing counselling to the family members of brain dead persons.
