3.5 YEARS OLD GIRL FROM MUMBAI GOT NEW LIFE WHILE 15TH HEART WAS DONATED FROM SURAT

This was the 15th Heart donation from Bihar’s Shah family living in Surat, Gujarat. 14 months old Somnath Sunil Shah got brain dead thus his family donated heart, kidney and saved

lives of 2 people by showing their humanity and inspired the society.

The distance of 269km was covered in 92 minutes and the heart was transferred and transplanted in Fortis Hospital in Mulund, Mumbai in a 3.5 years old girl.

A 14 Month young boy living in Dindoli, Surat became an example of humanity while his family members donated his organs when he was declared brain dead by the doctors. On 2nd

September 2017, Somnath slipped from the stairs near his home and got an injury to his head. After primary treatment in the nearest hospital, he was shifted to New Civil Hospital in

Surat under Dr. Jignesh Shah. After CT scan, doctors found brain haemorrhage and skull fracture.

On 4th September 2017, Neurosurgeon Dr. Mehul Modi, Pediatric NeuroPhysician Dr. Ritesh Shah, New Civil Hospital’s RMO Dr. Ketan Nayak, Surgical ICU Dr. Mehul Chadhury

declared him brain dead.

Dr. Nilesh Kachdiya from Surgery department of New Civil Hospital informed Mr. Nilesh Mandlewala founder of Donate Life about Somnath’s Brain Dead condition.

Donate Life Team went to the hospital and informed his father Sunil, Mother Kiran, Grandmother SunitaBen, Uncle Shavi Kushvah, Kiran Patel and other family members about Organ

Donation procedure and its importance. Family members of Somnath and his parents said “Our child is brain dead and will leave us soon. You must proceed if you can use his organs to

save lives of other children. We are going to lose our child sadly but we are proud that because of his organs 3 lives will be saved.”

With the consent of family members, Mr. Nilesh Mandelewala contacted Dr Jamal Rizvi from Institute of Kidney Disease and Research Center (IKDRC), Ahmedabad and informed him

to take the donation of Kidney and Liver whereas for donation of heart, he contacted NOTTO director Dr. Vimal Bhandari and Dr. Suresh Badhan (National Organ & Tissue Transplant

Organization) to take the donation of heart. The waiting list of NOTTO showed a patient from Mulund, Mumbai in Fortis Hospital and thus Heart was offered to them. Dr. Sandeep

Sinha cardiac surgeon at Fortis Hospital came to Surat with his team and accepted the heart donation.

The donation of Kidney and Liver were accepted by Dr. Jamal Rizvi and his team from Institute of Kidney Diseases and Research Centre (IKDRC), Ahmedabad.

The heart collected from New Civil Hospital, Surat was reached to Fortis Hospital, Mumbai after passing 269KM in 92 minutes and transplanted into Aaradhya Yogesh, age 3.5years,a

resident of Mumbai by Dr. Anvay Mule Chief Cardiac Surgeon of Fortis Hospital and his team.

Aradhya was suffering from heart problem from the last one and half years and her heart was functioning with 5% to 10% capacity. Even people were trying hard by creating awareness

for her through social media campaigns named as “SAVE AARADHYA”.

The donation of the kidney was accepted by Institute of Kidney Diseases and Research Centre (IKRDC).

This whole process of organ donation witnessed an invaluable cooperation of Somnath’s Father Sunil, Mother Kiran, Grandmother SunitaBen, Uncle Kavi Khushvah, Kiran Patel,

So far with the consent of family members from Surat and South Gujarat, Nilesh Mandlewala and Team of Donate Life has helped in donating 222 kidneys, 88 livers, 6 pancreases,15

Heart and 186 eyes and saved 514 lives successfully by bringing light in their life.

Surat Police Commissioner and Mumbai Traffic Police also supported in this organ donation by declaring the route from New Civil Hospital, Surat to Airport and Mumbai Airport to

Fortis Hospital Mulund, as a ‘Green Corridor’.
