On Friday 1st June 2018, Maheshkumar aka Mahipalsinh complained about a headache and then vomited five-six times. Immediately, he was admitted to Ashirwad Hospital in Kosamba. After preliminary treatment, he was shifted to INS Hospital in Surat for the further treatment under the supervision of Neurophysician Dr Anirudhdh Apte. After CT scan, doctors found a brain hemorrhage because of the blood clot and swelling in the brain.
On 4th June, Monday, he was declared brain dead by Neurosurgeon Dr Ashok Patel, Dr Dhaval Patel, Neurophycian Dr Manoj Satyawani and Intensivist Dr Ankit Gajjar.
Maheshkumar’s friend Sanjay Solanki and Police Inspector Karansinh Chudasama informed Donate Life President Nilesh Mandlewala and informed about his brain dead. The team Donate Life reached the hospital and explained the importance and procedure of Organ Donation to his wife Binaben, Brother Rakeshkumar, Father-in-law Dharmendrasinh, Divyarajsinh and other family members.
Family members of Maheshkumar said, “Before two days, we saw Organ Donation of the brain-dead patient from the same hospital. Today, when the doctors declared our loved one brain dead and Donate Life team also came and explained the importance of the organ donation, as well as today we have read news about organ donation in newspapers so we thought that this is a godly work. It is better to donate his precious organs and save the lives of needy people rather than burning his organ to ashes.”
On getting the consent from Maheshkumar’s family members, Donate Life Founder President Nilesh Mandlewala contacted Dr. Pranjal Modi at Institute of Kidney Diseases and Research Centre (IKDRC), Ahmedabad and informed him to accept the donation of the organs. The donation of the kidney and liver was accepted by Dr. Mitul Shah and his team from Institute of Kidney Diseases and Research Centre (IKDRC), Ahmedabad whereas, the donation of eyes was accepted by Lokdrashti Chakshu Bank’s Dr. Praful Shiroya.
Out of two donated kidneys, one was transplanted into Pradip Parsottambhai Chauhan (Age 35) living in Ahmedabad and another was transplanted into Yashesh Jitendrabhai Patel (Age 16) living in Ahmedabad. Whereas, the liver was transplanted into Mehul Manubhai Patel (Age 44) living in Ahmedabad. The process of organ transplantation was done by Dr. Pranjal Modi and his team from Institute of Kidney Diseases and Research Centre (IKDRC).
This whole process of organ donation witnessed an invaluable co-operation of Maheshkumar’s wife Binaben, Brother Rakeshkumar, Father-in-law Dharmendrasinh, Brother-in-law Divyarajsinh and other family members, Neurosurgeon Dr. Ashok Patel, Dr. Dhaval Patel, Neurophysician Dr. Manoj Satyawani, Intensivist Dr. Ankit Gajjar, Administrators & Staff members of INS Hospital, Founder President of Donate Life Nilesh Mandlewala, Subhash Jodhani and Yogesh Prajapati.
