20 YEARS OLD GIRL GOT NEW LIFE WHILE 14TH HEART DONATED FROM SURAT TO MUMBAI
This was 14th Heart Donation incident in Surat when family members of Vilas Jayram Ghatal agreed to donate his heart and other organs when doctors declared him Brain Dead.
On Tuesday 15th August 2017, Vilas participated in Janamashtmi celebration with his friends for Dahi Handi Competition. In the evening around 4:30 pm Vilas went to settle the rope
on the tree thus climbed it and slipped down from a tree which made him unconscious and caused an injury to his head. He was admitted to subdistrict Hospital in an emergency. After
giving primary treatment there, he was moved to Valsad’s Government Medical College (GMERC) for further treatment where Brain haemorrhage and Blood Clot in the brain was
detected by CT scan. Next Day on 16th August early morning at 3:30 AM he was operated under Dr. Nimesh Verma of New Civil Hospital.
On Saturday 19th August NeuroSergeon Dr. Mehul Modi and NeuroPhysician Dr. Paresh Zanjmera declared Vilas brain dead.
Dr. Nilesh Kachdiya from Surgery department of New Civil Hospital informed Mr. Nilesh Mandlewala founder of Donate Life about Vilas’s Brain Dead condition.
Donate Life Team reached the hospital and informed Vilas’s brother Vinod and Dinesh, Mama Amrut Bhai, Friend Ramzan and other family members about Organ Donation procedure
and its importance. Family members of Vilas said, “It’s better to donate his heart, kidney and liver to needy patients rather than burning his organs to ashes.”
On getting the consent of family members Mr Nilesh Mandelewala contacted Ahmedabad’s Institute of Kidney Disease and Research Center (IKDRC) Dr Pranjal Modi and informed
him to take the donation of Kidney and Liver whereas for donation of heart, he contacted CIMS and Sterling Hospital but there was no recipient so he contacted Dr. Sujata Patvardhan
at ROTTO (Region Organ & Tissue Transplant Organization) to take the donation of heart. The waiting list of ROTTO showed a patient in the need of the heart from Mulund, Mumbai in
Fortis Hospital and thus Heart was donated to them.
