17TH HEART DONATION FROM SURAT TRANSFERRED TO AHMEDABAD AND TRANSPLANTED INTO 58 YEARS OLD MAN

This was the 17th incident of heart donation in Surat while family members of Rajeshkumar agreed to donate his heart when doctors declared him brain dead.

Rajesh Kumar was associated with the furniture, utensil and electronic goods business. On 2nd February 2018, while coming from his business collections, suddenly an animal came out

of the road. His bike got out of control while trying to save the animal and met with an accident and got unconscious near Padamdungri Eco Tourism Spot at 7:30 PM. Immediately, he

was admitted to Ridham Hospital in Vyara for the preliminary treatment. For the further treatment, he was shifted to METAS Adventist Hospital under the supervision of Dr. A.D. Bam<

at 10:30 PM. After CT scan, doctors found brain hemorrhage and brain clot in the brain. Then after, he was operated by Neurosurgeon Dr. Kirit Shah to remove the blood clot from his

brain by craniotomy.

On 5th February 2018, Monday, Neurophysician Dr. Anirudha Apte, Dr. Haresh Parekh and Dr. Paresh Zanzmera declared him brain dead.

Dr. Aftab Motiwala (Clinical Assistant, METAS Adventists Hospital) and Mr. Anil Mehta (Journalist, Janmabhoomi News Paper) informed Donate Life President Nilesh Mandlewala

about Rajeshkumar’s brain death.

The team of Donate Life reached the hospital and explained the importance & procedure of Organ Donation to Rajeshkumar’s son Aashishkumar and Saurabhkumar, Brothers Ajaybhai

and Anandkumar, Brother in law Shivkumar, Friend Pushpendrasingh and other members of the family.

Family members of Rajeshkumar said, “it’s better to donate his precious organs and save the lives of needy patients rather than burning his organs to ashes.”

On getting the consent of Rajeshkumar’s family members, Shri Nilesh Mandlewala contacted Institute of Kidney & Diseases and Research Centre (IKDRC) Dr. Pranjal Modi informed

him take the donation of kidney and liver whereas, for donation of heart, they contacted Dr. Dhaval Nayak at CIMS Hospital, Ahmedabad to take the donation of heart.

The donation of heart was accepted by Chief Cardiac Surgeon Dr. Dhiren Shah and his team from CIMS Hospital, Ahmedabad.

The donation of kidney and liver were accepted by the team of Dr. Vikas Patel and his team from Institute of Kidney Diseases and Research Centre (IKDRC), Ahmedabad, whereas

Chakshudan was accepted by doctors from Lokdrashti Bank.

The heart collected from METAS Adventists Hospital, Surat was reached to CIMS Hospital, Ahmedabad after passing 277 KM in 120 minutes and transplanted into Visam Yadav

(Director of Ahmedabad ONGC), age 58 by Chief Cardiac Surgeon Dr. Dhiren Shah, Dr. Dhawal Nayak and his team.
