Healing through Giving: Donate Life’s Impactful Presence at Health & Wellness Expo by SGCCI
This was 16th Heart Donation incident in Surat when family members of Rameshbhai Gobarbhai Dhorajiya from Leuva Patidar Samaj agreed to donate his heart and other organs when
doctors declared him Brain Dead.
On 26th September 2017 at 11:00 AM Rameshbhai started vomiting and fell unconscious in the bathroom of Sunrise Diamond Factory located in Katargham. He was immediately
admitted to Kiran Hospital which was inaugurated by Narendra Modi for the treatment under NeuroSurgeon Dr. Bhaumik Thakore. After CT scan there doctors detected brain
haemorrhage.
On 28th September 2017 Neurosurgeon, Dr. Bhaumik Thakore and NeuroPhysician Dr. Krunal Nathe declared Rameshbhai brain dead.
Medical Administrator Dr. Snehal Dhungrani informed through Telephonic conversation Mr. Nilesh Mandlewala founder of Donate Life about Rameshbhai’s Brain Dead condition.
Donate Life Team reached the hospital and with Dr. Ravina Sejalyani informed RameshBhai’s son Purvik and Ravi, Brothers Himmatbhai, Kalubhai, Nareshbhai and other family
members about Organ Donation procedure and its importance. Both the Son of Rameshbhai said “Our father is Brain Dead now and will leave us soon. On this auspicious day of
Navratri if anyone can get organs by his donation then you must proceed.”
On getting the consent of family members Mr Nilesh Mandelewala contacted Dr Pranjal Modi at Institute of Kidney Disease and Research Center (IKDRC), Ahmedabad and informed
him to take the donation of Kidney and Liver whereas for donation of heart, he contacted CIMS and Sterling Hospital but there was no recipient, so he contacted Dr. Sujata Patvardhan
at ROTTO (Region Organ & Tissue Transplant Organization) to take the donation of heart. The waiting list of ROTTO showed a patient in the need of the heart from Global Hospital,
Mumbai and thus Heart was donated to them.
