While addressing the participants, Dr. K. L. N. Rao said that this public awareness rally, organized as part of

celebrating the World Kidney Day will make the people aware of kidney related diseases in society. This information

will help people in keeping their kidney fit.

The main objective of celebrating the World Kidney Day is to spread awareness about the kidney related diseases among the masses.

Dysfunctional Kidney is a silent killer.

There are 20 lakh kidney failure patients in India and every year 2-2.5 lakh new patients are added to this number.

At present 1111 patients are taking dialysis at 24 dialysis centres every year.

The President of Donate Life, Shri Nilesh Mandlewala said that Kidney disease is a silent killer. Every human is gifted

with 2 kidneys by God. Even if one kidney becomes dysfunctional, the person can live a healthy life on the other

kidney, which is working. But after the failure of both the kidneys, either Dialysis or Transplantation can only treat the

kidney failure patient. Kidney Failure is an incurable disease, for which ‘Prevention’ is the only cure. Further to that, he

said that one should drink 10-12 glass of waters every day to keep the kidney fit. Proper treatment for diabetes should

be taken. High Blood Pressure should be kept under control. Stone/calculus in kidney should be cured. It is not

advisable to take medicines without Doctor’s prescription. The health problems faced by men like inflammation of

prostate and the urinary tract infection in women must be cured urgently. Adding to that Mr. Mandlewala said that

whenever you get any information regarding any brain dead person, you must approach Donate Life, so that the

organs of brain dead person can be transplanted to save other lives. Organ donation is donation of life.
