January 11, 2017

On Monday, 9 January, 2017, the first citizen of Surat, Hon’ble Mayor Smt. Asmita Shiroya took a pledge of organ donation by submitting a form of organ donation to the President of Donate Life Shri Nilesh Mandlewala and Director of NOTTO (National Organ & Tissue Transplant Organization) Dr. Vimal Bhandari. Donate Life President Shri Nilesh Mandlewala and Dr. Vimal Bhandari offered the hon’ble mayor her Donor Card.

After completing the formalities of taking an oath of organ donation, Mayor Smt. Asmitaben Shiroya said that through the medium of Indian Redcross Society, Choryasi Surat and Lokdrashti Eyebank, she and her husband Dr. Praful Shiroya have been carrying out various social activities for Eye donation, Body donation and Blood donation for last 20 years and are also running Redcross Blood Bank at Surat by their family.

Further to it, she said “I was fortunate enough to take part in the Kite Flying Festival Celebration organized by Donate Life on Sunday, 8th January, 2017 in Surat. It gave me an opportunity to meet the family members of organ donors and organ receivers; which gave me an idea that the number of people dying in India due to non-availability of organs is in lakhs. When Surat ranks the first in organ donation in Gujarat, (as the first citizen of Surat) I should become an inspiration to more & more people in the society by taking a pledge of organ donation.”

As the first citizen of city and Mayor, today I urge all my dear citizens that whenever they get any information about any brain dead person, kindly contact Donate Life to regenerate the life of organ failure patients.

This occasion witnessed special presence of Deputy Mayor Shri Shankarbhai Chevli.
