FAMILY MEMBERS OF 70 YEARS OLD BRAIN DEAD DEVKUNVARBEN SPREADS THE MESSAGE OF HUMANITY BY DONATING KIDNEY, LIVER, AND EYES

How a 70 years old Devkunvarben saved lives of many by cadaver organ donation is a great example set for many

people of the society. Even at this age, her family members decided to donate her organs after doctors declared her

brain dead.

On Thursday 16 March 2017, Devkunvarben started vomiting at 9.30 PM and fell unconscious.

Hence her family members took her to Sardar Hospital at Singanpore in Surat and admitted her.

After preliminary treatment, she was shifted to Mahavir Trauma hospital at 12.30 AM under supervision on Dr. Hasmukh Sojitra and Dr.Manoj Satyavani.

After CT scan doctor found a blood clot in her brain.

On 19th March 2017, Neurosurgeon Dr.Hasmukh Sojitra and Neurophysician Dr. Manoj Satyavani declared her brain dead.

Then Rameshbhai Vaghasiya (Vallabhipurvala) called team Donate Life and informed about Devkunvarben.

A team of Donate Life informed Devkunvarben’s family members about the importance of organ donation.

Family members told that when their family member is brain dead and she can save other lives, we must go ahead for

donating her organs.

On getting consent from Devkunvarben’s family members, Shri Nilesh Mandlewala contacted Transplant Coordinator

Priyaben Shah and Dr. Pranjal Modi from Institute of Kidney Diseases and Research Centre (IKDRC), Ahmedabad to

procure the donation of kidney and liver. Dr. Sureshkumar and his team from IKDRC accepted the donation of kidney

and liver, whereas Dr. Praful Shiroya from Lokdrashti Eye Bank accepted the donation of eyes.

The donated both the kidneys were transplanted into Dilipbhai Boda (age 53) living in Rajkot whereas liver was

transplanted into Vasantbhai Devjibhai (age 43) living in Bhavnagar. Donated two kidneys and liver were transplanted

at IKDRC, Ahmedabad by Dr.Pranjal Modi, Dr.Jamal Rizvi and their team.

The whole process of organ donation was successfully carried out with the kind support of the family members of

Devkunvarben, Neurosurgeon Dr. Hasmukh Sojitra, Neurophysician Dr. Manoj Satyavani, Ramesh Vaghasiya

(Vallabhipur), staff members of Mahavir trauma hospital and Donate Life Team members.

So far Donate Life has successfully regenerated 446 lives by receiving a donation of 192 kidneys, 72 livers, 4 Pancreas,

9 Hearts and 170 eyes, through counseling the family members of brain dead persons.

A great example of humanity has set by family members of 20 years old lady from Surat, Gujarat.

Saving lives of unknown people must not be a condition but it should be a priority.

Registering yourself as a cadaver organ donor willsurely help many people in the future to survive with a new lease of life.
