Donate Life is an NGO working in the area of spreading awareness of kidney related diseases. The main objective of this organization is to counsel the family members of brain dead person so that their organs can be donated to end-stage liver failure or heart patients to save their lives.

Though citizen of Surat now are reasonably aware about the activities of Donate Life and also most of them understands the importance of organ donation after brain death. Still, to spread the awareness at the ground root level about how organs like liver, kidneys, heart, pancreas, eyes or bones can save many lives, donate life participated in Surat Municipal Corporation organized book fair between 25 January to 29 January 2017. Around 20,000 people visited Donate Life’s stall and collected information about organ donation. The major questions asked were – what is brain death? Who can donate organs? Which organs can be donated? Who receives the donated organs? What is the religious belief about organ donation? etc. People got answers for their queries and satisfactorily took a good message from the stall.

Out of all the visitors, 211 people filled the forms for organ donation after brain death and took a pledge to spread the awareness for the same.

The stall was visited by District and sessions judge Gitaben Gopi, Member of Parliament Darshnaben Jardosh, Education Committee Chairman Hasmukhbhai Patel, Surat Municipal Corporation’s cultural committee chairperson Rupaben Shah, Akashvani FM 101 Asst. Director Amrpaliben Desai, Mulji Jetha hospital’s medical director Dr.Mahesh Desai and Dr.A.K.Rastogi, CIMS hospital Ahmedabad’s Heart transplant surgeon Dr.Dhaval Naik, renown Nephrologist of Surat Dr.Ketan Desai, Urologist Dr.Kumar Naik, Saurastra Patel Community President Kanjibhai Bhalala, Southern Gujarat Chamber of Commerce Vice President P.M.Shah, Bhartiya Janta Party’s territory minister Darshiniben Kothiya, Business people from the various industries and social leaders also visited the stall and gave their best wishes. Donate Life distributed the leaflets to all the stall visitors explaining how to take care of liver and other relevant information about cadaver organ donation. Donate Life expresses gratitude to respected mayor of Surat Ashmitaben Shiroya and Municipal Commissionaire Shri Thennarasan for allotting the stall to donate life in the book fair without any booking charge.
